To kick off the WNBA’s 30th season, the reigning MVP, DPOY, and Finals MVP A’ja Wilson pulled up to the Las Vegas Aces media day channeling her inner Jean Grey. Following up her bubblegum pink wig from last year, Wilson went red this year, inspired by the mighty Phoenix from the X-Men universe.
A’ja has been debuting new colorways of her new Nike A’Two signature at every opportunity, and what better time than media day? In tandem with the red hair, Wilson broke out a custom pair of rosy red Nike A’Two’s, created by customizer Melique Journet, to mark the start of the WNBA season.
The Nike A’Two is in full bloom with the Jean Grey PE. The sneaker’s upper may opt for a primarily red finish, but the silhouette’s use of texture and materials showcases how visually striking the A’Two is, with the quilted portions on the ankle collar and toebox adding a more subtle texture. Green laces contribute to a floral framing, giving off red rose vibes, but Wilson admits the inspiration comes from Jean Grey.
The metallic silver detailing on the Swoosh and heel counter adds a shine nearly matching Wilson’s own shine on the court. A semi-translucent white midsole and gold A’ja branding on the tongue finish the look.
The Nike A’Two Jean Grey custom is exclusive to the four-time MVP. Stay tuned for more on this PE, and for all the latest Nike basketball news and release info, download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
