The WNBA Finals have wrapped up and the NBA season is only just beginning, but there’s more basketball to look forward to on the collegiate circuit from both the men’s and women’s squads. Over in Oklahoma, Aaliyah Chavez continues to honor Kobe Bryant with her on-court footwear choices, as last year she rocked two different Nike Kobe PEs: a multi-color Kobe 9 and a Mexico-inspired Kobe 6. Now, just weeks after debuting a new Kobe AD Protro PE, Chavez took to social media to share a perfect pair of Kobe 5s to match her Sooners uni.
Nike Kobe 5 Protro Aaliyah Chavez OU PE Details
Pictured against a black background with smoke emanating from the sneaker itself, the new Kobe 5 Protro PE features a primarily black color palette accented by OU’s shades of crimson. The Flywire-embedded upper gets a shiny finish on the toebox and midfoot, while a matte dark grey reinforces the eyestays and vamp. More black appears on the tongue and laces, with the Kobe sheath logo dipped in a golden hue to match the outline of the Swoosh on the midfoot.
The first hits of red appear on the sockliner, contrasting the black shades around the collar and heel tab. Darker hues continue down onto the midsole, which packs a Zoom Turbo unit into the forefoot and a full-length Cushlon foam, while the rubber outsole below that comes coated in a crimson red hue.
Is the Nike Kobe 5 Protro Aaliyah Chavez OU PE Releasing?
Unfortunately for Aaliyah Chavez and OU fans, her Nike Kobe 5 Protro OU PE is not set for a public release. Catch Chavez and the Sooners kick off the women’s NCAA basketball season today when they take on the UNC Tar Heels at 2:30 PM EDT. Maybe Aaliyah will lace the pair up, but at the least, expect to see her rock a Kobe on the court at tip-off.
