The Air Jordan 1 is arguably the most iconic silhouette in sneaker history, and the Banned colorway is at the heart of the appeal. In 1984, the NBA fined Jordan $1,000 for wearing a black and red colorway of his new Nike Air Ship without enough white to meet the league’s sneaker rules. Seeing a marketing opportunity, Nike inflated the fine amount to $5,000 and put out an ad with black boxes over the Air Jordan 1 that still lives in the heads of sneaker and sports fans everywhere.
The black and red colorway has been an icon for over 40 years now, and in its latest iteration, the Jumpman is giving the color combo a low-top turn with references from the 2011 Banned Air Jordan 1 Retro OG High. Just like the pair from the beginning of the last decade, a big red “X” is added to the heel and insoles of the shoe to give it a bit more banned flair.

A white midsole brings it all together.
