Basketball is back, baby. Not only is the NBA season about to begin, but so is the NCAA season, so you know that footwear brands have been hard at work to bring high heat to the court across both levels of the sport. For UNC, the alma mater of Michael Jordan, they’re strictly team Jumpman, consistently receiving some of the best player-exclusive kicks. Following the school’s AJ 14 PE that first popped up in April, Jordan Brand has gifted the Tar Heels a brand-new Air Jordan 12 Retro.
Air Jordan 12 Retro UNC PE Details
The University of North Carolina’s blue color palette shines through on this new pair of Jordan 12s. The leather upper is done in a blue-tinted denim, featuring the iconic Rising Sun-inspired stitching details. A material swap is also done on the mudguard, which traditionally is done in a faux reptile print, with this pair adding a darker blue denim panel. UNC’s logo replaces the Jumpman up on the tongue, while the top two metallic eyelets are rendered in gold.
Back on the heel is a leather pull tab, which features a Tar Heels emblem on the top and the standard “Jordan” and “Quality Inspired By The Greatest Player Ever” branding written in contrasting light blue. Below sits “23” as part of the darker blue rubber outsole that wraps up onto the heel. Finishing the shoe is a two-tone midsole in light blue and dark blue.

Unfortunately, the Air Jordan 12 Retro UNC PE is not slated for a public release. Instead, the pair will be gifted to student-athletes and staff of the Tar Heels athletic program.
