We may have a lot to deal with on planet Earth, and plenty of things to fix here, but the human spirit has always yearned for adventure. Space is the final frontier for humanity, and our journey into the great unknown is finally pushing forward again. NASA’s Artemis mission are preparing to send humans back to the moon for the first time since Apollo 17 in 1972, and while there is a ton we can discuss regarding the recent Artemis II mission, we’re a sneaker blog after all. We’ll leave the in-depth space exploration discussion to the experts, but we can talk about the sneakers that astronaut Victor Glover wore post-splashdown.
After barreling back to the planet into the Pacific Ocean around 60 miles outside of San Diego, the Artemis II crew made a trip back to Houston, and Victor Glover chose a special pair of kicks to celebrate. He wore the NASA x Vans Old Skool Voyager, one of the four pairs from the NASA x Vans collaboration that was originally released in 2018.

That pack of sneakers took inspiration from previous NASA missions and programs, and the specific shoes that Victor wore are based on the Space Shuttle. It’s actually quite fitting since part of the SLS (Space Launch System) was built using scrap parts from the retired Space Shuttle program.
NASA previously celebrated the beginning of the Artemis program with Converse, tapping rapper Tyler, the Creator and his Golf Wang label for a special collection of shoes and apparel inspired by Artemis I. Unfortunately for the general public, the kicks and apparel were made exclusively for the broadcast crew during the unmanned Artemis I mission.
Maybe NASA has more up its sleeve for the upcoming Artemis III and Artemis IV missions, the latter of which is planned to bring humans back to the surface of the moon, but for now, you’ll have to go to the aftermarket to find the NASA x Vans shoes Victor Glover wore.
