A Bathing Ape has been a staple on the Japanese streetwear scene for decades, helping turn the niche fashion subculture into a global phenomenon in the early 2000s. In 2001, BAPE debuted its signature sneaker model, the BAPE STA, a clear take on the iconic Nike Air Force 1 shape with a bold star logo on the side and an impossible-to-forget early run of bright patent leather colorways.
A Quarter Century of BAPE STAs
This year, BAPE is paying tribute to the BAPE STA’s quarter-century with a 25th anniversary collection featuring celebratory BAPE STA colorways along with a clothing capsule with cartoon BAPE STA graphics mingling with Baby Milo, shooting stars, and other mainstay BAPE imagery. After debuting the collection with an early drop at ComplexCon in LA, the exclusive pack is finally ready for retail, but will still be sparse, only hitting BAPE’s US flagship stores and webstore.
The clothing features a new 25 logo featuring a shooting star in the middle, plus a grid graphic motif featuring 25 iconic BAPE STA colorways. On the sneaker side of things, three BAPE STA pairs add silver accents to celebrate the shoe’s silver anniversary. A black cracked leather pair adds a standard silver star on the side panel, while a white pair brings an oversized silver star hanging over the midsole, and last but not least, a black patent pair features a shark mouth graphic on the side panels, with a large silver star falling onto the midsole just like the white pair.
