Crenshaw Skate Club is a perfect example of the DIY ethos built into skateboard culture from the start. Founded nine years ago by then-14-year-old Crenshaw, California skater Tobey McIntosh as a way to bring local skaters together, CSC has evolved over the past decade into a full-fledged brand repping the LA skate scene through collabs with major corporations like Coca-Cola, Lacoste, and the LA Chargers. CSC is still by and for the local LA scene, though, so it’s only right that its latest collab connects with SoCal’s skate shoe originators.
The Crenshaw Skate Club x Vans Half Cab Collection features two pairs of premium leather Half Cabs, one in black with red and green accents to represent the Pan-African flag and black empowerment, and a second in crisp white leather with maroon stitching and mint green hits, carrying over a color palette that’s been central to the brand since the start.
On the standout black colorway, a clean monochrome coat of black leather with a green underside covers the upper, contrasting the white midsole underfoot. The stitching on all of the upper panels is red, adding subtle red and green hits to the leather, while a tie-dye style mix of red, black, and green is added to the branding patches and laces, bringing some perfect symbolism for the impact black skaters have had on skate culture.
