There aren’t many honors higher than the NBA Hall of Fame. Well… in the world of sports-entertainment, it’s the WWE Hall of Fame. The crossover between the two is an exclusive club, which, until today, was home to just Karl Malone and Shaquille O'Neal. The 2026 class of WWE Hall of Fame inductees expands this list, with the legendary Dennis Rodman getting inducted the night before WrestleMania 42 in April.
Obviously, Rodman’s NBA career needs no introduction. A five-time NBA champion (three with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls) and one of the greatest defensive players to grace the hardwood. His off-the-court shenanigans are quite notorious as well, from visiting North Korea to the multiple arrests and legal issues he faced.
As for his time in the squared circle, Rodman joined forces with the nWo in WCW in 1997 and teamed up with Hulk Hogan to face Lex Luger & The Giant in the main event of WCW Bash at the Beach. A year later, after the Bulls won Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals, he skipped practice to appear on WCW Monday Nitro. Then, at WCW Bash at the Beach 1998, Hogan and Rodman faced Karl Malone and DDP.
With Rodman on top of mind, Sole Retriever thought it would be great to look at some of his top sneaker moments.
1 - Rodman vs. Yeezy Box
October 2020. The world is still locked down because of the pandemic. Another major incident? Dennis Rodman destroys a sneaker box on Instagram. Not really comparable by any means, but this moment will live in infamy. Kim Kardashian and Ye sent Rodman two pairs of adidas Yeezys, Wave Runners, and a pair of QNTMs, but Rodman had no idea how to open up the brown cardboard Yeezy box. Instead of sliding the opening, he rips the top off and completely destroys both boxes. Nearly six years removed, and it still goes viral when it gets posted online.
2 - Wearing Crocs to North Korea
Rodman’s most infamous off-court moment was not his time with Carmen Electra, but his multiple trips to the closed-off nation of North Korea. Technically, the North and South are still at war, but Dennis isn’t afraid of a little tension, and he forged a friendship with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un. When Rodman arrived on one of his later visits, he stepped off the plane in a pair of black Crocs. Pretty ahead of his time, as during 2013, Crocs had a somewhat negative reputation, especially among sneakerheads.
3 - Starring in Travis Scott’s Jordan 1 Low Commercial
The holiday season hype is usually reserved for whatever yearly Jordan 11 is dropping in December, but when Travis Scott is prepping to release his latest Air Jordan 1 Low, everything else is secondary. In December 2024, Scott’s Velvet Brown AJ 1 Low was on everyone's minds, even if it wasn’t as highly received as previous collabs from La Flame. To help promote the release, Travis enlisted Rodman to star in a commercial that parodies Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Rodman joins the lucky golden ticket winner and provides a tour of the shoe-making facilities, including a line of chocolate versions of the Velvet Brown Travis Scott Jordan 1 Lows and a “cocoa cactus” field before crashing into Scott’s chambers.
4 - Debuting the Nike Air Shake Ndestrukt
Dennis spent time at multiple brands during his playing days. At the start of his career, he was team Reebok, then switched to Nike, back to Reebok, and then back to Nike. He became the face of the Air Darwin silhouette, and eventually, Eric Avar at Nike designed two sneakers inspired by Rodman, though they weren’t technically official sneakers. That would be the Air Worm Ndestrukt and the Air Shake Ndestrukt. When he debuted the latter of the two, the announcers couldn’t help but poke fun at the asymmetrical kicks. Unlike traditional sneakers, the Air Shake Ndestrukt placed its lacing system on the side of the upper, which the commentators made sure to note.
5 - Dennis’ Tattoo on his Converse Signature Sneaker

After spending time with Nike and Reebok, Dennis finally got a true signature sneaker with Converse in 1997, the All-Star 91. This was before Nike bought the company, by the way. His second shoe was released a year later, the Converse AS Rodman. Design inspiration came from a very personal source, Rodman himself, whose tattoos and body art directly influenced the sun-like spiral surrounding the All-Star logo on the midfoot.
