Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice. Those three things, and an accidental dose of Chemical X, helped create The Powerpuff Girls. You probably have fond memories of hearing that intro if you tuned in to Cartoon Network in the 2000s. Decades later, The Powerpuff Girls have maintained their place in culture. We’ve seen plenty of collabs featuring Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, with the trio appearing on sets of Nike SB Dunks, Converse Chuck Taylors, Crocs, and ballet-ready Pumas. Next up for the crime-fighting sisters is a collection of footwear and accessories with Dr. Martens.
The Powerpuff Girls x Dr. Martens Collection Details
Dr. Martens’ latest collab with The Powerpuff Girls goes against the traditional dark aesthetic you associate with Dr. Martens footwear. Instead, two of the three pairs are coated in vibrant colors, that being the high-top red patent leather-covered Buzz Hi boots and the platform-sole Buzz 5i low-cut boot. The third pair, a Buzz Strap, features a primarily black look, with purple and green accents found throughout.
Inspiration for the footwear comes not only from the trio of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, which is apparent on the Buzz 5i shoe, but also from villains found in The Powerpuff Girls universe. The red Buzz Hi boots are inspired by the devilish villain “HIM,” featuring custom claw-shaped zipper pulls modeled after HIM’s hands. HIM is also present on the insole and a custom hang tag.
Mojo Jojo is the main inspiration for the Buzz Strap, which uses Mojo’s color palette and contains a custom tongue logo, a ray gun charm, and a printed insole with the villain. Finally, the Buzz 5i, inspired by the stars of the show, contains stitching details, charms, and custom graphics representing the three girls. To go alongside the footwear, Dr. Martens has created a small handbag and a heart-shaped bag. Both contain special hangtags and charms for The Powerpuff Girls.
