Upper Deck revealed that one of the key subjects of their 2026 Skybox Metal Universe SE set are the Huntrix trio from the hit Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters. While they are not pictured as their respective characters in the movie, Arden Cho (Rumi), May Hong (Mira), and Ji-young Yoo (Zoey) are included in multiple base cards, inserts, and autographs.
As the leader of Huntrix, Cho is featured in several major case hits in Metal Universe SE like Jambalaya (an insert set from the 1990s beloved for their unique foil treatment) and Platinum Portraits (a classic set notorious for their sensitivity to conditions that make them hard to grade highly). Hong and Yoo’s base cards have Precious Metal Gems and Essential Credential parallels that use the same colorful sheen as their 90s predecessors.
Skybox Metal Universe is a yearly product from Upper Deck that combines celebrities like Bill Nye the Science Guy with a sprawling collection of superstar athletes like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Lamine Yamal, and Nelly Korda. The set also mixes in sports that don’t normally get the trading card treatment like curling and bull riding, and NIL athletes like Harper Murray, who plays volleyball for Nebraska. Since Upper Deck does not have the NBA license, Jordan is often pictured in casual attire or in classic photographs from various Nike and Upper Deck shoots.
For those who remember Skybox from their iconic 1990s NBA and Marvel Universe trading cards but have not kept up with the news, they were purchased by Marvel Entertainment in 1995 and merged with Fleer (also owned by Marvel) to form Fleer/Skybox. The company would be sold to Alex Grass, founder of Rite Aid in 1999, until operations ceased in 2005 and they declared bankruptcy. Upper Deck purchased the rights to Fleer and Skybox that same year and have been producing popular sets that callback to that era ever since.
