Every company is trying to add to its Pokedex this year with Pokémon collaborations in celebration of the franchise’s 30th birthday. We’ve seen the footwear world get filled with Pokémon characters, thanks to projects from adidas, Crocs, and Puma, but we’ve also seen ventures outside of sneakers, including a Krispy Kreme collab. Of course, the bread and butter of most Pokémon collectors are trading cards, and that too is experiencing a boom thanks to the increased attention on the card market. One card, a 1-of-100 Mudkip promo, just sold at a Fanatics auction for over $3 million. If you don’t have millions to burn on some cardboard, you probably have enough to grab a Happy Meal from McDonald’s, which will soon feature Pokémon trading cards.
McDonald’s x Pokémon Trading Card Happy Meal Details
No stranger to the world of Pokémon, McDonald’s is gearing up to include a new set of trading cards in an upcoming Happy Meal promotion. The first-ever collab from the duo came in 2001 with Japanese-exclusive toys, but a year later, we’d get the first taste of a Pokémon McDonald’s trading card collab. In the years since, we’ve seen over a dozen different instances where Pokémon and McDonald’s dropped trading cards.
The latest round of Pokémon TCG cards to come from McDonald’s hasn’t been formally announced by either party, but leaks report that 15 cards will be available during the promotional period.
