Happy Opening Day. Sure, the flowers and the warm weather are nice, but when it comes to spring, the annual return of baseball season is by far our favorite part of the season. Nike is getting in on the return to the grass diamond this year, with yet another retro of the iconic Air Griffey Max in the Seattle Mariners-friendly Freshwater colorway.
The Nike Air Griffey Max Freshwater is returning in its original color combo from the late 1990s for the new MLB season, keeping things classic in a mix of black and white with Mariners teal accents across the upper. Of course, Griffey’s jersey number, 24, is added to the velcro ankle strap to rep The Kid.
The OG colorway features a black nubuck base across the upper with a strip of wavy white leather cut out of the lateral side panel that stretches back to the heel. The white panel is filled in with a black Swoosh at the toe, a red tab pops from the vamp, and then the Seattle teal that Griffey made famous is added on the tongue and heel tabs, plus the mini Swoosh on the strap.
The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 Freshwater will be released May 15, 2026 through Nike and select retailers in-store and online. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $170. For all the latest Ken Griffey Jr. Nike retro news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
