The baseball diamond is not typically the place you’d expect to find high-heat sneakers, but that’s changed in recent years. From Jordan Brand athletes rocking special edition cleats to New Balance honoring the great Shohei Ohtani and more, the footwear choices of MLB players are getting the most attention they’ve gotten since Ken Griffey Jr. was knocking bombs smoov out the park in his Air Griffey Max sneakers. The latest special cleat created for the diamond comes from the University of Oregon, with the Ducks sharing images of a Nike Sabrina 3 Grateful Ducks metal-spiked cleat.
The Oregon Ducks previously dropped a collection of apparel and an Air Max 90 in collaboration with the legendary band the Grateful Dead, and a few months later, we saw the Oregon Ducks basketball program lace up a special Sabrina 3 under this same banner. The pair didn’t drop as part of the basketball team’s Grateful Ducks drop in February, though it seems there were some leftovers that were converted into this cleat.
As for the cleat itself, the upper is identical to the pair worn on the hardwood, with a black tie-dye used on the toebox and collar, white used on the midfoot, tongue, and sockliner, and a green chenille Swoosh. The Oregon Ducks-themed Grateful Dead bear charm comes attached via a keychain, resting near the Grateful Ducks logo atop the tongue. Below sits a foam midsole and metal spikes for use on the diamond.
Like the basketball-ready version of the Nike Sabrina 3 Grateful Ducks PE, this cleated version will remain exclusive to the Oregon Ducks.
