Pharrell hit the red carpet over the weekend for the Footwear News Achievement Awards show and walked out with a sneaker of the year award for his adidas Adistar Jellyfish. With the bulky runner in contention for the prestigious award, Pharrell hit the red carpet in a new colorway to flex his year of unexpected sneaker success.
From the carpet to the podium, Pharrell was rocking the adidas Adistar Jellyfish Tan at the FNAA event, bringing the Virginia Beach-themed sneaker back to the sand. In addition to the beachy color covering the mesh and TPU upper in three shades of khaki, the shoe adds light blue accents on the midsole and two-tone hiking laces, plus black Three Stripes on the side.
The Jellyfish seemingly came out of nowhere. Its massive TPU wing structure added to a retro runner design immediately took off, thanks in no small part to its on-foot marketing campaign from Skateboard P, Pusha T, and Malice as Clipse came back into focus with the group’s first album in 16 years. Since then, we’ve seen a limited global pop-up release structure and small online releases that’ve kept the shoe at arm's length for most sneakerheads.
As of now, there’s no word on a retail drop of the Tan Jellyfish colorway, but the surprise on-foot preview has been Pharrell’s M.O. for the entire Jellyfish rollout, so we’re expecting more details to come out soon.
