The World Cup is bringing a focus on national flags to brands across the sneaker industry, with Nike, adidas, Puma, and more teaming up with national football federations on officially sanctioned country collabs. Sometimes, though, a flag on a sneaker has nothing to do with soccer and everything to do with pride, passion, and summer tradition.
R4 for PR
The Nike Shox R4 Puerto Rico is the latest pair out of Beaverton made to celebrate the summer’s annual run of Puerto Rican Day parades across the East Coast, most notably in NYC, where the city shuts down Fifth Avenue for 35 blocks and supplants traffic with dancing, drinking, and more flag-waving than you can imagine. This year, a baby blue Shox R4 adds PR flag designs to the cushioned heel and more boricua branding on the tongue.
