Shoes are meant to be worn. No matter the colorway, collab, or limited quantity of the release, footwear is designed to be put to use. For Detroit-based fine artist Tyrrell Winston, his debut collab in a new long-term partnership with adidas is a step outside the gallery, turning the Lightblaze POD silhouette into a blank canvas meant to be transformed into art by everyone’s unique wear.

“Taking on this project with adidas allowed me the creative freedom to put my own stamp on a signature sportswear canvas,” Winston said. “My work is always rooted in sport, giving new life to old objects, celebrating embedded history whilst building something new that can change over time. The final design is an amalgamation of influences from California, New York, and Detroit – places I have lived in for long periods of my life that have shaped and evolved my aesthetic and artistic output. Above all, I wanted the shoe to be something that is easy to wear and gets better the more it is broken in.”
