Asics has undergone a shift in popularity and production over the past few years, finding a niche with its retro runner silhouettes and going all in, complete with endless collabs, revisited classics, and new models made to meet vintage demand. In a past era, though, the only Asics that sneakerheads cared about were the Gel-Lyte III, an early ‘90s-era runner designed by Shigeyuki Mitsui with a split tongue and upper paneling ripe for creative colorways and intricate storytelling.
The latest Asics Gel-Lyte III on the Japanese brand’s calendar is a remastered pair designed as a tribute to Mitsui, complete with his signature running vertically down the right side of the shoe’s classic split tongue. Beyond the signature detail, the shoe features a hand-drawn aquatic scene on the insoles featuring fish and coral to match the colorways. Asics first introduced the “Remastered” Gel-Lyte III with help from Ronnie Fieg and Kith in 2023, with this variant of the model only now getting its first GR release.

Starting with a tan khaki base, the suede pair adds a vibrant teal blue shade to the toe, side panel netting, and heel, while orange pops on the side panel stripe logo, the rest of the heel, and the sockliner and inside of the tongue. Finally, a bit more orange pops from behind the teal toe at the lateral side.
The Asics Gel-Lyte III Remastered Shigeyuki Mitsui will be released June 5, 2026, through Asics and select retailers in-store and online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is still TBD. For all the latest Asics news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
