The “What The” treatment started with an extremely limited collage pair of Nike SB Dunk Lows to commemorate the silhouette’s fifth year of out-of-the-box storytelling. Combining 31 colorways on one asymmetric pair, the What The SB Dunk opened a can of worms, leading to What The pairs of Kobe 8s, Book 1s, Sabrina 3s, and more. On the latest What The colorway, Beaverton is adding a pair to the Jordan line.
The Air Jordan 9 Retro Low What The Kilroy is a focused version of the multi-pair mash-up that looks back to 2012’s AJ 9 Kilroy pack. Taking inspiration from the 1993 Johnny Kilroy ad campaign starring Steve Martin that poked fun at Jordan’s retirement, supposing that he was back on the Bulls playing in disguise as “Johnny Kilroy.”
The 2012 pack featured six colorways designed after the disguises Michael wore in the commercial, each one taking the name of Jordan’s supposed fake persona. On the What The colorway, Jordan brings all six pairs back into one low-top colorway featuring red leather on the upper of one shoe and black nubuck on the other, with midsoles switching from orange to white and the outsoles going from yellow back to white.
The Air Jordan 9 Retro Low What The Kilroy will be released Fall 2026 through Nike and select Jordan retailers in-store and online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $180. For all the latest Jordan news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
