The Green Screen-Inspired Air Jordan 11 Retro Monstars Drops in November

No matter how far out we get from the movie’s theatrical debut and how terrible the sequel was, Space Jam will always hold a vaunted place in the pantheon of kids’ movies, sports movies, and most importantly, sneaker movies. Featuring two pairs of Jordans, a and an 11, that have since been dubbed Space Jams in their retro returns, a new retro 11 colorway ties back to the film’s production instead of its final product.

Green Screen Gamers

The Air Jordan 11 Retro Green Screen Monstars is a callback to the pre-CGI filming needed to craft Michael’s scenes playing against the Monstars. From on-set stories to grainy BTS footage posted in the early days of YouTube, the shoe is a tribute to the sneakers worn by the green screen actors who served as stand-ins for the Monstars before animators added the gigantic alien hoopers.

Featuring a full coat of green in slight tonal shifts, the pair is made to disappear against a green screen with a sole that glows in the dark. Starting from the glow-in-the-dark green outsole, the colorway moves from dark to light as it climbs towards the ankle, with the darkest shade of green on the midsole, a rich shade on the wavy nubuck toecap, side panels, and heel, and a slightly brighter shade of green suede on the lace panel, with green leather lace loops that match the toebox tone stretching across.
