The Air Jordan 40 is a landmark model for Jordan Brand. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the brand and putting a round number on the ongoing legacy, the AJ 40 has been one of the most successful modern numbered models in recent memory, thanks in large part to a series of self-referential hybrid pairs. Continuing the fold-over 4028 hybrid heat, the latest colorway is covered in a mix of black patent and stretchy knit.
The Air Jordan 4028 Black Metallic Gold follows an on-court debut of a Paolo Banchero PE pair, followed by a Black and Volt colorway that made history on the feet of Bam Adebayo during his historic 83-point game. Finally, the latest 4028 we’ve seen is another PE, this time in denim for Rui Hachimora.

On the black and gold colorway, the color blocking replicates the Black Barely Volt pair with a patent leather toe and more black covering the rest of the ankle-high stretchy knit upper. Instead of neon green accents, this pair adds metallic gold to the Jumpman logo on the lateral heel, the hidden tongue, and the 23 branding on the underside of the flap. Beneath the shroud is your normal Air Jordan 40, featuring a mesh tongue, its traditional construction, and cushioning setup including ZoomX and Zoom Strobel.
The Air Jordan 4028 Black Metallic Gold will be released Summer 2026 through Nike and select Jordan retailers in-store and online. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $205. For all the latest Air Jordan 40 news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
