New Balance is going into sport mode. Or are they leaving sport mode? Maybe we’ll come back to that later. The Boston-based brand known for its sublime suede and mesh retro runners has been diving deep into the worlds of basketball, skateboarding, baseball, and running lately, but with summer on the horizon, there’s always a little time for fun, too.
The New Balance 9060 Summer Raincloud is part of the debut collection of the retooled 9060 silhouette, highlighted by its chopped off back with an elastic and velcro strap added in its place. The sports up front, party in the back sandal-sneaker hybrid is summer’s answer to the sneaker-loafer hybrid, putting an out-of-office auto-reply on the email account of life.

Zach Harris is a writer based in Philadelphia. His work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Vice, Complex, High Times, and more. He is obsessed with skateboarding and bowling. He is still looking for his first 300. For tips, reviews, and anything in size 10.5 - zach.h@soleretriever.com
The Raincloud colorway starts with a traditional 9060 look up front, combining grey suede with wide-knit off-white mesh and dark grey support panels. The grey suede switches to a darker color at the back like a storm cloud rolling in, but keeps it all sunshine at the heel, with an adjustable strap that can also be fully removed for an open-back clog look. Standard laces are replaced by a pulley system so the sandal doesn’t get too loose.
The New Balance 9060 Summer Raincloud will be released Summer 2026 through New Balance and select retailers in-store and online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is still TBD. For all the latest New Balance news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
