Skateboarding is all about keeping it in the family. From board brands started by the skaters that ride for them to friends and ex-pros working as shoe designers, team managers, videographers, and more, the skate industry has always prided itself on being made for skaters, by skaters. The push of major sneaker brands like Nike SB, adidas, and New Balance Numeric into the skate scene has created a little bit of tension for their corporate backing, but at the end of the day, even the big sneaker companies have been convinced to keep the industry’s core ethos in mind.
The latest colorway of the New Balance Numeric 933 Andrew Reynolds signature model is a collaboration with one of Reynolds’ friends, business partners, and favorite artists, Mike Gigliotti. One-time owner of Lotties skate shop and current artist at Reynolds’ Baker Skateboards, Gigliotti’s take on the NB Numeric 933 is a blend of premium green leather on the toe and lower panels of the sides and heel, with light brown nubuck above that, darker brown suede on the lace panel, grey mesh on the toebox and ankle collar, and pale pink laces to round it all out.
Andrew Reynolds has been one of the premier pro skaters in the industry for decades now, starting his career on Tony Hawk’s Birdhouse before going on to start the storied brand Baker Skateboards and its sister brand Deathwish under Baker Boys Distribution. After years with Emerica skate shoes, Reynolds shook the skate world when he joined New Balance, but his ultra-padded 933 has quickly become a favorite on board and as a crossover lifestyle shoe.
