On April 24, 1996, a press conference announcing the official creation of the WNBA changed basketball forever. Icons like Lisa Leslie, Rebecca Lobo, and Sheryl Swoopes laid the foundation for the growing league. Before the inception of the league, women's basketball players had limited options for professional careers, usually resulting in playing international ball.
Now, three decades later, players like A’ja Wilson, Sabrina Ionescu, Angel Reese, and Caitlin Clark are taking the league to new heights. After starting with just 8 teams, the WNBA will expand to 18 by 2030 as the popularity of women’s hoops continues to soar.
That press conference shaped the future of women’s sports, and now, Nike is celebrating 30 years of legendary WNBA moments with two of its most iconic silhouettes: The Air Force 1 and the Nike Dunk Low. The Nike Air Force 1 Low WNBA 30th anniversary is an off-white with blue and red trim, and the other is a bolder red iteration of the Nike Dunk Low brimming with ‘90s energy.
The Nike Dunk Low WNBA 30th Anniversary (W) goes for a vintage vibe with an off-white leather base, outsole, and laces. In a nod to the WNBA’s original color scheme, a bright shade of red graces the leather overlays and heel tab. Hints of sky blue on the heel tab and tongue harken back to the days when Swoopes and the soon-returning Houston Comets dominated the league.
Holographic Swooshes and a matching badge on the heel, complete with the league’s original logo, immortalize the league’s official announcement date complete the celebratory sneaker.
The Nike Dunk Low WNBA 30th Anniversary (W) releases on April 24, 2026 via Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in women’s sizing, the price is set at $130. For the latest Nike drops and release details, download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
