Up in Smoke: Nike References Skunk Dunks on New Air Max 90

Is it 4/20 yet? The spring stoner holiday is still half a year away, but Nike is getting the vibes fired up early with this green suede Air Max 90, and we’re already planning to bring this pair out for the April occasion.

The Nike Air Max 90 PRM Skunk is covered in green shades of hairy suede like a nug of dank, drawing immediate comparison to the 2010 4/20 SB Skunk Dunk designed by legendary skate figure Todd Bratrud. Taking the dark green tone from the Skunk Dunk’s toebox, the hairy suede features lighter green fibers sticking out in every direction across the upper. Instead of the purple accents on the SB Dunk, the AM 90 Skunk adds brown hits on the Swoosh, laces, and midsole. Lighter green is featured on the outsole, Air Max logo patch, lower lace panel, and the midsole section surrounding the Air bubble.

Now, to be fair, nothing about this colorway was designed with explicit stoner themes like the Skunk Dunk, or other 4/20 shoes, but you can’t fault us for seeing the similarities, especially when Nike used a similar makeup on an Air Max 1. Even outside of Nike, adidas used an almost identical color and texture of hairy green suede on its own ZX 1000 4/20 release.
