With R9’s Brazil dispatched by Erling Haaland and Norway over the weekend, one of the sport’s biggest fandoms will have to wait another four years to wave the green and yellow flags in search of soccer supremacy. With that reputation comes plenty of sneaker lore, too.
The Nike Air Max Joga Bonito (the latter half translates to The Beautiful Game in English) carries the tradition of Ronaldo Nazário’s debut cleat, the Mercurial R9, into the Air Max legacy. Made for the stands instead of the pitch, the remixed silhouette takes the Mercurial R9 upper and sits it on top of an Air Max 95 sole.

After debuting in the OG blue and yellow Mercurial R9 colorway, the latest pair of the Joga Bonito remix takes its look from the bottom half, bringing Air Max 95 Neon vibes to the mix. Starting with a two-tone grey upper, a third shade of grey is stitched in waves across the side panels, with a neon Volt green Swoosh matching the tongue logo and Air bubbles.
The Nike Air Max Joga Bonito Neon will be released July 30, 2026 through Nike and select retailers in-store and online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $180. For all the latest Nike Air Max news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
