The Nike Moon Shoe’s 55-year history is essentially the story of Nike itself. Crafted from a waffle iron in 1971 when the brand was still called Blue Ribbon Sports, the prototype running shoe never actually made it to market, but served as an influence for the Waffle Trainer, which launched Nike as we know it. After more than half a century, French fashion house Jacquemus brought the silhouette back for its first retail release, and now, Nike is tapping Olympic superstar Alysa Liu to debut a new colorway from the model’s in-line debut.
First seen in the background of an Instagram hardpost slide where Liu was showing off a massive Ziploc bag of Lucky Charms (another of her sponsors), the Midnight Navy Moon Shoe features a monochrome dark blue upper on top of a brown gum sole with a white Swoosh on the side panel for a bit of contrast.

The shoe popped up again in Liu’s debut Nike editorial shoot, where she rocked the Midnight Navy pair with a pair of khaki cargo pants and a matching navy t-shirt. Lastly, as Nike rolled out the in-line Moon Shoe collection last week, The Swoosh gave us a closer look at the colorway sitting on a bed of wrapping paper. With the debut of the in-line collection dropping today, we should see a full range of product shots for the colorway soon.
The Nike Moon Shoe OG Midnight Navy (W) will be released Summer 2026 through Nike and select retailers in-store and online. Available in women’s sizing, the retail price is set at $105. For all the latest Nike retro news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever App.
