In addition to financially supporting the incredible work of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the Doernbecher x Nike Freestyle Program, now in its 21st year, is a reminder that sneakers are for kids, and they are meant to be fun. Few shoes have ever embodied that spirit like the Nike V2K Run from this year’s collection, and its stuffed animal accessories.
Designed by 9-year-old Khovny Vignery, who was born prematurely and suffered from congenital chylothorax, a condition where chyle accumulates in the space between the lungs and chest wall in newborns, the V2K Run is packed with smile-inducing details. The pair is split into two different colored shoes, the right covered in pink, and the left covered in blue. Both shoes feature furry tongues spilling over onto the rest of the shoe and support panels decked out in bright, shining gold snakeskin, but that’s just the start.
The eye-catching part of the pair comes from the accessories. On the blue shoe, a panda face jumps off from the front of the tongue, and a blue butterfly flaps its wings on the heel tab. The pink shoe features a sequin snake slithering on the tongue and a mini replica of Vignery’s stuffed monkey, Pinky Doo Doo, on the lateral side. Bringing the colorway together as a tribute to her late brother Ryan, Vignery added detachable friendship bracelets that swoop across the heel.
The Doernbecher x Nike V2K Run Khovny Vignery will be released Spring 2026 through Nike and select retailers in-store and online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $130. For all the latest Nike Doernbecher news and drop info, download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
