Back to the Net: Nike’s Latest Mag Reference Arrives on a Vapor 12 Hypersmash Tennis Shoe

The Nike Mag will forever be one of Nike’s most legendary shoes. The self-lacing silhouette from Back to the Future II was conceived as a concept shoe in 1985, looking towards dreams of flying cars in 2015. Along with skateboarding, Marty McFly’s shoes pushed culture forward faster than any movie before it.

Nike has since put together extremely limited runs of working pairs with light-up accents and battery-powered self-lacing. Beyond the Mags themselves, The Swoosh has used the Mag’s grey and blue colorway across the brand’s catalog, including a new pair that brings Marty to the tennis court.

The Nike Vapor 12 Hypersmash Mag brings the performance tennis silhouette to the attention of sneakerheads with an immediately recognizable reference to Back to the Future II. Starting with grey across the base of the smooth toebox and mesh side panel, a grid of multi-color accent stripes weaves through each other on top of the mesh, with more blue speckled on the grey midsole and on the border of the Swoosh. Finally, a sunset gradient on the tongue logo brings the tribute color together.
