Before Curbed published its bombshell story on accusations surrounding Tom Sachs in May 2023, the designer was in the spotlight of sneaker culture. Sure, Sachs was already a prolific figure thanks to his grail-status Mars Yard projects but his General Purpose Sneaker was one of the hardest models to cop during this time frame.
Fast-forward past his “cancellation” period and Nike welcomed Tom back with open arms, green lighting the Mars Yard 3.0 sneaker. His webstore also restocked pairs of the original Nike GPS but there are plans to expand the GPS family with an all-new colorway of the model.
Sole Retriever can confirm that in Spring 2026, the Nike GPS will get a Black White Team Royal makeover. Following these initial reports, images of the sneaker emerged online. The pair forgoes the usual canvas construction for a perforated leather upper and tumbled leather overlays. Details found on previous GPS releases are present, including the pull tabs and a custom Nike tag on the heel.

If you’ve forgotten about the General Purpose Shoe, here’s a quick refresher. Tom introduced the GPS as a go-to sneaker for any occasion. He wanted to make something boring and basic, serving a utilitarian purpose as opposed to making a fashion statement. Even though the idea behind the design was that the shoe was nothing special, making it ultra-limited drove demand for the Killshot-adjacent model. Aftermarket prices for the $110 sneaker hovered around $350 in the months after the initial release.

Following the original The Studio colorway, which restocked again during the Holiday 2025 season, Tom Sachs and Nike launched three additional colorways: Dark Sulfur, Pecan Brown, and White Vivid Sulfur. Two colorways, White Gorge Green and Rattan, were planned for Holiday 2023 but were scrapped when the Tom Sachs x Nike partnership was put on pause.
The Tom Sachs x NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe Black White Team Royal will release Spring 2026 through Nike, Tom Sachs’ website, and possibly select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $125.
