For better or worse, Tom Sachs and Nike are picking up right where they left off in 2023. The partnership between the artist and the massive sportswear brand was put on hold in 2023 after an article in Curbed detailed the harsh, often inappropriate working conditions at Sachs’ studio. Two years later, though, apparently enough time has passed, and Nike and Sachs are picking up where they left off.
After dropping the Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard 3.0 earlier this year to an instant sell-out despite rumblings of confusion from the community about the renewed partnership and a restock of the OG GPS, Sachs and Nike are back with a rehash of their General Purpose shoe from 2022. Re-launched as a consolation prize for fans who didn’t get a pair of the Mars Yard 3.0, the latest colorway of the General Purpose is a 2023 colorway that was shelved during the hiatus after Sachs’ behavior was made public.
