Vans has had a stellar year, ranging from a slew of inline hits to timely collabs with designers and brands that only continue to raise the SoCal skate brand’s profile. Going from sneaker customizer to bona fide collaborator, Mattias Gollin’s jewel-covered Vans customs have now become official, with the Italian designer working on multiple projects with the brand in the last year. Next up in the Mattias Gollin x Vans catalog is an online release of the Checkerboard Blu Vans Authentic Vissute.
Mattias Gollin x Vans Authentic Vissute Checkerboard Blu Details
Mattias Gollin follows the same formula that brought him to the level he’s at today, applying jewels and pearls to the classic Vans Authentic. Swapping the red checkerboard pattern found on his previous collab for blue, the sneaker features frilly lace details across the white and blue upper, all of which come accented by squares featuring pearls and jewels in blue, white, and gold.
Branding for Gollin is found on the tongue tag and on the insole, while a large Vans logo is stamped in black on the cream insole. Adding to the DIY aesthetic is the scuffed vulcanized rubber sole unit, which features a blue stripe running the entire length of the sneaker. Finishing the sneaker is the gum rubber outsole below.
