Film fans have been eating as of late. You’ve got Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey releasing this week, the Criterion Collection having its 50% off sale at Barnes & Noble, and Dune: Part 3 and Avengers: Doomsday duking it out at the end of the year. But with positive comes negative, and once again, The Batman 2, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, is being delayed to 2028.

Delay After Delay

Originally, Warner Bros. planned to release the follow-up to The Batman on October 2, 2026, but, like Grand Theft Auto 6, the highly anticipated sequel has been hit with multiple delays. The first delay moved the sequel back 364 days to October 1, 2027, and it made sense.

Release dates for films are notorious for being pushed depending on what the schedule looks like and what the competition has planned, so while it may be agonizing for film fans, it's commonplace. The latest piece of test footage from director Matt Reeves displays a new date at the end, February 18, 2028.

Matt Reeves’ Test Footage

Matt Reeves has had film fans foaming at the mouth with every new post on X. Back in May, Reeves posted pictures of the Batmobile in a snowy environment, and in the following weeks, he would go on to confirm new and returning cast members for The Batman 2. On June 12, he posted the first shot being filmed with the caption “Here We Go…” Today, July 15, he posted a Vimeo link that contained a 36-second clip of test footage.

Robert Pattinson dressed as Batman slowly turns to the camera, then a cut to black with the logo for The Batman 2 taking over, and then the updated release date for the film.

Hopefully, there are no more delays for The Batman 2, as at this rate, there will be a six-year gap between the original and the sequel.
