Nike is getting formal in the most informal way possible. Taking notes from cowboy boots and dress shoes, Nike showed up to Paris Fashion Week with pairs of some classic silhouettes reimagined with square angles and flat fronts. After getting a look at five colorways of the Square Force 1, a new preview showed off a Square Max 90 in monochrome neon green.
Square Max 90
Seen in just one unforgettable preview image, the angular Air Max arrives in a jolt of neon green with sharp edges and angles on all of the panels to match the redesigned toebox shape. It’s hard to see in the preview picture, but the square-toe Air Max 90 adds a bumper to the front of the toe to keep the shape, with white backing on the green panels peeking through on the sides.
The square-toe Air Max 90 and Air Force 1 are a radical departure from Nike’s current design ethos, but Paris Fashion Week is the place to show off your wildest ideas. We’re not sure how well the 90-degree dress sneakers will sell, but if this signifies a new direction for The Swoosh, we’re excited to see where it leads.
