The 1990s were a different time for athlete sneaker endorsements. With a singular national focus on the major sports leagues and no influencers, musicians, or cultural heavyweights taking up the marketing dollars at the big sportswear brands, athletes from the NBA were joined by superstars from the NFL and MLB with their own major shoe lines. Sure, we have Mahomes at adidas and Shohei at New Balance, but nothing compares to Deion or Griffey. At adidas, the gridiron dedication goes back decades, and the Three Stripes’ latest retro is a cross-trainer once endorsed by New York Jets wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson.
The adidas GameSpeed comes back from 1998 in its original form, debuting in a mix of sparkly blue and white leather. Bringing Keyshawn’s famous speed to the colorway, the shoe starts with hits of twinkling shiny blue on the toebox and streaking down the bottom of the side panels. More patent blue is added to the top of the tongue, with a bit more color added with a slime green tongue logo and a small green hit on the front of the midsole. The rest of the shoe is a mix of white leather and mesh, with a white midsole to match.
