The New Balance 1890 has been one of the biggest hits of the year for the Boston-based brand, complete with collaborative packs from JJJJound, Action Bronson, Joe Freshgoods, and Stone Island, and that’s not to mention the steady run of clean, inline colorways. But before we got any retail releases of the silhouette, an early preview from last June leaked the silhouette in a snakeskin makeup with a moccasin toe.
Snakes and Shrooms
Now, after a full year and more than a dozen 1890 releases, the 1890A is finally arriving in its Morel snakeskin glory. Starting with the same ABZORB-packed sole as the standard 1890, the upper transitions to a moccasin loafer with a leather base and raised stitching, creating a lip around the toebox. In addition to the Morel pair, we’ve seen the 1890A moc in tan and black leather from a CDG collab preview.

The Morel colorway gets its name from a mushroomy shade of pale yellow on the leather upper. On top of the leather base, structural paneling in grey, black, and brown snakeskin print adds a bit of luxury to the formal silhouette. The ABZORB sole and the NB tongue tag are both black for a bit of dark contrast.
