If you grew up in America in the mid-2000s, odds are you were introduced to the concept of Harajuku Girls by pop star Gwen Stefani, who took extreme inspiration from the hyper-local Tokyo fashion scene and brought it to the masses. The bold, frilly, costume-like style of the Harajuku girls is also the inspiration for a new pack of Nikes made to celebrate Japan’s annual Culture Day holiday.

Translated from the Japanese name Bunka no Hi, Culture Day is a celebration of Japan’s rich art and academic traditions held every year on November 3rd. In addition to the fuzzy Air Rift, Nike is celebrating the holiday with an LD-1000 with even more soft, furry construction, adding plaid and pearls to the Swoosh, embroidered stars across the upper, and a plush toy attached to the laces.
The Nike Air Rift Culture Day will be released Holiday 2025, but unfortunately for Stefani and other stateside Harajuku girl fans, this pair is an overseas exclusive.
