Jordan Release Calendar

Nike first introduced the Zoom Hyperflight in 2001, with designer Eric Avar taking inspiration from Nike founder Bill Bowerman's design ethos. The minimalist yet boundary-pushing shoe took inspiration from track shoes and utilized patent leather paneling. Inside sits a Zoom Air unit. Retro releases of the Zoom Hyperflight began in the early 2010s, but began to release more colorways for the 25th anniversary in 2026. New releases of the Zoom Hyperflight retail for $170.
Eric Avar, who designed a heap of different Nike Basketball classics, pushed the design envelope with the Zoom Hyperflight in 2001. The story goes that Avar stumbled into a rehearsal screening of a video celebrating the life of late Nike founder Bill Bowerman, and after, he took Bowerman's design approach to a new basketball shoe. This would become the Zoom Hyperflight we know today. Inside sits an Air Zoom unit. The model would go on to inspire newer releases like the GT Future, and today it's recognized as a classic from Nike's experimental Alpha Project line.
