Baseball is back, baby. Opening Day was yesterday and ballparks around the country (and Canada, too) were full of fans hopeful for a chance at the pennant and beyond. While Nike has been dropping retro colorways of Ken Griffey Jr.’s signature sneaker, the Air Griffey Max 1, and has plans for more in the coming months, The Swoosh will also be teaming up with Major League Baseball for an official collaboration on multiple Air Max 1 colorways inspired by various teams’ City Connect jerseys.
MLB and Nike first dropped the City Connect jerseys, basically an alternate uni that features graphics and details not typically found on traditional home and away uniforms, in 2021, with seven teams getting in on the action. Since then, 28 of the 30 MLB teams (the Yankees and the Athletics aren’t participating at this moment) have had their own City Connect uniforms. In the agreement, teams are allowed to get a new design after three years, and this year, five teams will debut a second design.
Alongside the five teams debuting the new City Connect uniforms, which include the San Diego Padres, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Baltimore Orioles, the MLB and Nike Air Max 1 collab pack will feature pairs for the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, and Milwaukee Brewers, making it a total of eight different sneakers. So far, the only images up are of the Padres pair, which features a Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) inspired design.
The MLB x Nike Air Max 1 City Connect Pack will be released throughout the coming months via Nike and select retailers online and in-store. The Padres pair is expected to drop on May 15, 2026, with all pairs retailing for $150.
